Alfa 33 16 Valve Build 2003

The creation of a racing car - the full story of turning a tatty road car into a competitive modified racing car will be shown here soon

5th January 2003

The donor for our 2003 racing car - a slightly tired but tidy Alfa Romeo 33 S 16 valve.

11h January 2003

Stripping begins with removal of the doors and interior.
18th January 2003
The whole interior is gone, the wiring will be the last thing to come out once the engine bay has been cleared.
The rear suspension and fuel tank are removed.
The bumpers, bonnet, tailgate and front wings are all removed.
The front suspension is dismantled.
The engine is stripped of its pipes, wiring and ancillaries.
22nd January 2003
The engine, gearbox and wiring are removed leaving us with an almost completely bare bodyshell.
There are still some things to remove - numerous screws, clips and other fasteners, not to mention the sound-deadening and underseal materials.

25th January 2003

Interior sound-deadening material was removed first...
...then the bodyshell was rolled gently onto its side, supported on carpet covered blocks of wood, to give access for us to remove all the underseal.
At about this point we had to make a difficult decision... the body was so rotten in the sills and floor that we either had to do a lot of patching-up or scrap this 'shell in favour of something more solid.

We went to the pub for lunch where we then decided to scrap this project and start again.
