MG Maestro EFi

This car was bought by Marquis Motorsport late in 1999 to ensure that we got back to the track quickly in 2000. Built as a Maestro Challenge car way back in 1988 this car has seen a long competition history, mainly in Maestro racing. During the last few years with it's previous owner it was used as a reliable rally car to earn the necessary license upgrades to allow entry into the year 2000 London to Sydney Marathon, which the father and son team completed in their Lotus Cortina.

Back to Racing with Marquis Motorsport. During the early months of 2000 this car was stripped and rebuilt using the suspension parts from our white maestro and taken for a quick shake-down at Lydden - competing in a sprint! After a half expected engine blow-up at Snetterton we installed the engine from our previous Maestro, along with the closer-ratio gearbox from the rally set-up. The car was then developed well through the early part of the season to run as high as 6th in MGOC races. We also entered some sprints and hillclimbs for fun, the most memorable being Wiscombe Park where we beat an MG Maestro Turbo in our class, much to the disappointment of it's owner! Other events were less exciting due to the fact that we ran on road tyres in a class which allows slicks, unfortunately our budget wouldn't stretch to such exotica, and straying from a fully road legal set-up would require us to have an MSA log-book.
